Monté the Motivator
Monté Twilley

"My goal is to visit each of the 119 Salvation Army ARCs throughout the USA."

Like many children of alcoholics, Monté Twilley experienced his first drink as a young teenager while living with his parents and five young siblings on Maryland’s Eastern Shore during the late 1960s.

One summer afternoon, while emptying the garbage, he began rummaging through two rusty trash containers located in his back yard.  Liquor bottles left over from his parent’s “weekend get-together” had begun spilling over onto the ground.  After careful scrutiny, Monté found a near empty liquor bottle.  He quickly unscrewed the cap and placed the bottle to his lips.

That incident would soon set wheels in motion for what he calls a “roller coaster lifestyle” full of difficulties and disappointments.  It would also establish a venue for a 30-year bout with alcohol and illicit drugs.

With a diehard passion for encouraging others to live a victorious life, Monté has since enhanced the lives of thousands of men and women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Celebrating more than 15 years in recovery, Monté is an alumnus of The Salvation Army Baltimore Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) and is the Immediate Past Chairman of its Advisory Council.  Arriving to the ARC on March, 13, 1997, Monté remained in the program for 2 ½ years.

In February 2004, Monté formed The Twilley Group, a communications firm specializing in promoting nonprofits and newly-formed small businesses as well as providing public speaking training and motivational seminars for high schools, universities, corporations and organizations.

In August 2005, and again in 2010 Monté was given an opportunity to share his story at Salvation Army Conference in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina.  In January 2006, he led efforts to coordinate the Baltimore Center’s first alumni reunion for program graduates.  In March 2011 Monté spoke to  Salvation Army youth at a weekend retreat in West Virginia.  In May, 2011, he was the keynote speaker at a Maryland Drug Court graduation ceremony in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

In the summer of 2009, Monté launched his It’s About Time Tour ™  in hopes of inspiring others to follow their dreams and acheive their goals no matter where in life they find themselves.

He also hopes to inspire Salvation Army program beneficiaries at ARCs nationwide as well as others suffering with drug and alcohol addictions to begin rebuilding their lives. The tour is slated to end New Year's Eve in 2019.

On December 12, 2012, Monté hosted, "Motivate Me 12-12-12", a two-hour motivational speaking event that showcased 12 remarkable people who shared inspiring life stories. The theme: “It’s Time to Overcome”, focused on adversities such as chemical addiction, child molestation, financial hardship, and other life challenges.
